Planting season is in full swing here! Over the past week, I’ve planted beans, sweet potatoes, zucchini, and radishes, and tomatoes will hopefully go in the ground later today. While planting sweet potato slips on Tuesday, I noticed a bird nest in a tall clump of grass along the fence.

I will be at the New Market Farmer’s Market tomorrow with more fresh lettuce and spinach, brown eggs, herb starts, and hand-knit/crocheted items. Several people asked about mint last week, and I am happy to say I will have potted chocolate mint starts, as promised! It looks like we should have some beautiful weather, so come out and enjoy the sunshine with us.

I also still have a few openings for Fairydiddle Forage Baskets left. If you would like to pick up a basket full of fresh vegetables, herbs, and eggs each week, click on this link to sign up.

I won’t normally post two updates in one week, but so many exciting things are happening right now! As previously mentioned, I will be back at the New Market Farmer’s Market tomorrow afternoon with herb starts, notecards featuring Paul’s (my husband) photography, and hand-knitted/crocheted items.

And, surprise! I’ll also have some veggies and local eggs! Come by to get the first of the lettuce and spinach tomorrow, as well as some fresh herbs. The spinach has suffered a bit of insect and hail damage, but despite a few holes, it’s still very tasty and nutritious, just not quite as pretty. In addition, the peas are finally blooming in earnest, so you should be seeing some fresh sugar snap peas at the market in a few weeks.

Enjoy the sunshine today, and I hope to see you at the New Market Farmer’s Market tomorrow afternoon!

P.S. Don’t forget to order your Fairydiddle Forage Baskets!

This idea has been rolling around in my head for quite some time now, and I’m excited to finally introduce it to you all: Fairydiddle Forage Baskets! For those of you who can’t make it to the New Market Farmer’s Market on Friday afternoons but still live nearby, Fairydiddle Forage Baskets offer a way for you to get fresh, sustainably raised food from Fairydiddle Farm every week, June through September.

Much like with a CSA program, subscribers will pay a lump sum at the beginning of the season and then pick up a basket of food each Wednesday evening from a designated pickup location in Broadway. These baskets will contain fresh, seasonal vegetables and herbs from Fairydiddle Farm, as well as a dozen free-range eggs from a nearby farm.

The first pickup date will be June 2, and space is limited, so purchase your subscription soon!

While the other details have mostly been nailed down, I am still finalizing the specific pickup location within Broadway. I will update the product description and notify any subscribers as soon as I have done so. For more information or to purchase Fairydiddle Forage Baskets, click here.

In other news…

Fairydiddle Farm will be returning to the New Market Farmer’s Market this Friday, May 14! In addition to hand-knit/crocheted items (new this week: scrubbies!) and notecards featuring my husband’s photography, I will have potted herb starts for sale. The farmer’s market is now open every Friday, weather permitting, from noon until 4 p.m. Find us in the municipal parking lot beside Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, just off Congress Street (Rt. 11).
